Abstract

Organizations continue to lose new hires within the first ninety days because onboarding practices do not support the needs of newcomers. Early turnover creates financial loss, operational disruption, and diminished morale. This white paper presents research-based insights drawn from a study of one hundred and seventy participants who experienced onboarding within their first year of employment. The findings reveal that onboarding quality influences newcomer commitment, performance, and retention. The research validates the Inform, Welcome, Guide framework as a practical structure for organizations seeking to strengthen onboarding — with Welcome emerging as the most influential component, Guide as the second most influential, and role clarity as a critical factor in retention.

Founder's Note

A note from Dr. Martha O. Boateng — This white paper grows out of my doctoral research on why so many new hires leave within their first year. I am sharing it freely because these insights belong in the hands of the leaders and practitioners who can put them to work. My hope is that it helps your organization build onboarding systems that create clarity, connection, and sustained support. — Martha
